National Gold Education Program
The Gold Industry Group (GIG)’s National Gold Education Program provides teachers with access to free, interactive gold demonstrations delivered by passionate workers in Australia’s gold industry, as well as exclusive Gold Resources Kits.
Students will learn all about gold, its value, relevance and opportunities, from industry professionals through hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities designed for Upper Primary (Years 4-6) and Lower Secondary (Years 7–10) classes.
The Primary activity engages students by using pulleys to move heavy loads, replicating machinery often used in gold mining. The Secondary activity involves using geophysical maps to explore for gold deposits. These activities have been developed in conjunction with Australian Earth Science Education. Students will also explore the free Heart of Gold Australia app, featuring interactive gold games activities.
Each interactive one-hour session can be presented to a single class of up to 32 students at a time. This unique program is available for free to schools across Australia; however, bookings are essential.
