National Gold Education Program
The Gold Industry Group (GIG)’s National Gold Education Program provides teachers with access to free, interactive gold demonstrations delivered by passionate gold class facilitators who work within Australia’s gold industry.
Students will learn all about gold, its importance, relevance and opportunities, from real industry professionals through hands-on activities that incorporate STEM learning and are designed for upper primary students (Years 4-6) and lower secondary students (Years 7–10).
The primary activity engages students by using pulleys to move heavy loads, replicating machinery often used in gold mining. The secondary activity involves using geophysical maps to explore for gold deposits. Students will also use the free Heart of Gold Australia app, which includes other fun gold games and interactive features.
These activities have been developed and the training conducted in conjunction with Earth Science Western Australia.
Each interactive one-hour session can be presented to a single class of up to 32 students at a time. The program is available for free to schools across Australia; however, bookings are essential.
This unique offering is available to schools across Australia that are located within the catchments where GIG facilitators operate and live.
