National Gold Education Program
The Gold Industry Group (GIG)’s National Gold Education Program provides teachers with an informative array of educational gold resources.
Exclusive Gold Resources Kits including large rock samples are available for teachers to order for their school.
Teachers can book free, interactive gold incursions delivered by passionate workers in Australia’s gold industry to better inform students about the significance of gold, how it has helped shape our nation and the diverse range of careers available in the industry.
Lesson plans, an app, case studies, videos, other educational resources are also available covering gold careers, Science, Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics and Sustainability.
Gold Class Sessions
Free Gold Class Sessions are run by gold industry workers and are designed to educate students on the value of the sector to the community and economy, how the industry solves problems through Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), and the diverse range of careers available in Australia’s gold industry.
Careers Sessions
These 60-minute sessions are delivered to students in secondary school (Years 9 – 12) exploring various career pathways and the many opportunities available in gold. Gold industry workers will share their career journey and the diverse range of jobs available in the sector through their experiences, worker interviews and profiles. These sessions can be delivered Australia-wide online or in-person in WA.
You can also visit the Gold Industry Group’s Gold Jobs website, a central online hub of career content. It is a comprehensive resource for students and teachers to explore the range of jobs, career pathways, and employment programs on offer in Australia’s gold industry.
STEM Sessions
These 60-minute sessions are delivered to a single class of up to 32 students in upper primary (Years 4 – 6) and lower secondary (Years 7 – 10) school. Engage your students with real-life challenges run by industry professionals! During each interactive session, students will learn all about gold, its value, relevance and diverse opportunities, through hands-on STEM activities. Facilitators also provide students with a unique insight into their career journey. These sessions are available in Western Australia, Melbourne and Bendigo.
Students will also explore the free Heart of Gold Australia app, featuring interactive gold games and activities.

The Gold Industry Group’s free, exclusive Gold Resources Kits are popular, with a range of lessons and resources linked to the Australian Curriculum and large rock and gold samples from gold mines in Australia. The Kit provides teachers with unique learning tools and local samples to excite students about Australia’s diverse gold sector.
Each Kit includes a specimen of: bucky quartz, pegmatite rock, dolerite rock, gneiss rock, porphyry rock, a Perth Mint medallion, a gold leaf vial, geological hand lens, a comprehensive Teacher Guide, a Discover Gold in Your Life booklet and stickers, an Origins of Gold Specimens map, a Get into Gold flyer, a Careers in Gold poster and A Golden Country facts brochure.
Heart of Gold Australia app
Our free Heart of Gold Australia app, available to download from the App Store and Google Play, provides a range of interactive activities that students can use from any location, including the Discover Gold game. The app also features the Perth and Kalgoorlie Heart of Gold Discovery Trails for your next excursion or take the virtual tours from your classroom. Trail HASS and STEM lesson plans that are linked to the Australian Curriculum are also available.
